Optimized Performance Evaluation of LTE Hard Handover Algorithm with Average RSRP Constraint

Hard handover mechanism is adopted to be used in 3GPP Long Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) in order to reduce the complexity of the LTE network architecture. This mechanism comes with degradation in system throughput as well as a higher system delay. This paper proposes a new handover algorithm known as LTE Hard Handover Algorithm with Average Received Signal Reference Power (RSRP) Constraint (LHHAARC) in order to minimize number of handovers and the system delay as well as maximize the system throughput. An optimized system performance of the LHHAARC is evaluated and compared with three well-known handover algorithms via computer simulation. The simulation results show that the LHHAARC outperforms three well-known handover algorithms by having less number of average handovers per UE per second, shorter total system delay whilst maintaining a higher total system throughput.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures, International Journal of Wireless & Mobile Networks (IJWMN

Managing the Enriched Experience Network - Learning-Outcome Approach to the Experimental Design Life-Cycle

Experimental design methods have long been used in scientific areas such as agriculture, biology and physics to minimise error and assure validity. Although most network researchers performing experiments with testbeds and simulations implicitly follow scientific method, until recently there has been little emphasis on improving experimental design methods. Traditional experimental design focuses on experiments where the scope and objectives are relatively constrained, however network research in innovative areas where there is little or no precedence often has changing objectives that evolve over time. We describe the learning-outcome approach to the experimental design life-cycle that applies the concepts of systems development life-cycle models used in software engineering, as well as learning taxonomies used in education. Our approach extends traditional experimental design by providing a more comprehensive and efficient way of decomposing an experimental research project into manageable stages that are designed rather than improvised, leading to a well-structured way of assessing the knowledge gained. We provide an insight into our experiences with this approach in the context of experimental research in management of Alcatel Australia's new-generation Enriched Experience Network

ABSTRACT Intelligent transportation system (ITS) is an application which provides intelligence to the transportation and traffic management systems. Although the word ITS applies to all systems in the transportation but as per the European union directive it is the application of Information and communication technology in the field of transportation is defined as ITS. The communication technology has evolved greatly today from 2G/3G to long term evolution (LTE). In this paper we focus on the LTE and its application in the ITS. Since LTE offers excellent QoS, wide area coverage and high availability it is a preferred choice for vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) service. At the same time the LTE customer base is increasing day by day which results in congestion and accessing the network to send or request resources becomes difficult. In this paper we have proposed a group based node selection algorithm to reduce the preamble ID collision otherwise this uncoordinated preamble ID transmission by vehicle node (VN) will eventually clog the network and there will be a massive congestion and re-transmissions attempts by VNs to obtain the random access channel (RACH).
